About 45 employees are working at the Historical Museum of the Palatinate. The majority work in administration and concern themselves with IT-management, reception, human resources, booking tours, receipts and bookkeeping.
For every collection department, there is a scientist in charge, who selects appropriate artifacts, researches them, and prepares related papers for publication in scientific journals. The scientists in charge of each collection is supported by young scientific volunteers, who are gaining career experience by helping prepare the special exhibitions.
The Conservation Department is concerned with the condition of the artifacts, conserving and restoring them, as necessary. During construction and disassembly of exhibitions, conservators assure the competent and careful handling of original specimens.
The Building Services Department is quite good at energy, climate and safety concerns. They worry about perfect acoustics at concerts, arrange the best lighting for the display of artifacts, and have thousands of tricks at the ready to make exhibitions as lively and varied as possible.
The Youth Museum is dedicated to making even difficult subjects understandable and enthralling to children. Family exhibitions are especially loved by visitors because they know that there will always be something to participate in, experience, or try out.
The Media and Public Relations Office spreads news about the Museum around the world. It maintains close contact with TV, radio, newspaper and magazine outlets and is always prepared to listen to journalists’ suggestions. It gets involved in marketing, publishes the event calendar and manages the Museum’s internet presence.
Heading up all of the teams is the Director. Together with the Assistant Director and the Administration Manager, he makes the important decisions and motivates the teams to get as much done as possible. He presents the museum to the outside world and recruits friends and supporters for the Museum.
