Behind the Scenes

In addition to the special exhibitions, children’s museum, events, publications, and media relations activities, many things are happening behind the scenes. Our employees are working on several projects. We are constantly transforming our everyday jobs of collecting, preserving, researching and displaying artifacts into a variety of new approaches.

The KUR Project

The care and preservation of the objects entrusted to our care is in the hands of our conservators, each with his/her own specialty. Most of the time, we try to preserve objects in their original condition. Only in very special cases do we undertake a time-consuming and costly restoration. For example, the KUR-Project (KUR stands for the first letter of the German words for Conservation And Restoration) is working on the clothing in which the Salian kings and emperors were found in 1900 to have been buried. Exhibition Tours

Successful exhibitions frequently stir the interest of other museums in Germany and beyond. When they are taken over, our exhibitions are adapted and optimized to the realities of the cooperating museum. That way, the work of the Historical Museum of the Palatinate gets to be appreciated in other places. Besides “30 Years of Playmobil” and “ZDF Television. Tabaluga, Dandelion and Company. That is how television is done”, the exhibitions “Barbarian Treasure” and “Pirates” are currently on tour. More …
